Injection molding is, despite what many people think, not a recently invented process. The first injection molding machine that has been patented, was the machine of The Hyatt brothers in the United States in 1872. This machine was used to mold celluloid. Though it was an important invention it was not until the 1920s that new developments in this area were reported. These first Geman machines were totally on mually operated. Levers were used to clamp the mold and inject the plastic into a die. Improvements were made by the use of pneumatics that allowed the use of higher pressures and made the operator's job easier.
